this is a charming story about a Father ( in the church ) and the life he lives and the people he meets!I read the whole Mitford Years series while on bed rest during a difficult pregnancy. They were light and cute. The follow the life of a preacher in a small town. I got drawn in by the characters. It seems like there are some of the same people in our small town.
I loved this series.
Born Janice Meredith Wilson in 1937, Jan Karon was raised on a farm near Lenoir, North Carolina. Karon knew at a very early age that she wanted to be a writer. She penned her first novel when she was 10 years old, the same year she won a short-story contest organized by the local high school. Karon married as a teenager and had a daughter, Candace. At 18, Karon began working as a receptionist forI liked the first book the most. It was a pleasant light read with wonderful Southern food laced throughout (being a fan of the South, myself). A little disappointing when, in the second book, and in my opinion, the supporting characters act unlike themselves--took on a whole new attitude. Certain events are drawn out too long, in my opinion.
The whole series is wonderful-- I was sad to have finished it. I cried and laughed;; one of the reasons I moved to North Carolina-- to find a Mitford in my life. The characters are memorable; the events so real. Therecipes wonderful. Truely- read them all!!!!
The character development in this series is wonderful. I loved the early years in this series in the small town of "Mitford". I would love to be part of community like Mitford.Wonderful gentle read and a glimpse into the life of a minister.
