Narrative During Books Black Ice (Ice #1)

Living paycheck to paycheck in Paris, American book translator Chloe Underwood would give anything for some excitement and passion--even a little danger. So when she's offered a lucrative weekend gig translating at a business conference in a remote chateau, she jumps at the chance to shake things up.

Then by chance Chloe discovers her employers are anything but the entrepreneurs they appear, and suddenly she knows far too much. Her clients are illegal arms dealers, and one of them is ordered to kill her. But instead, Bastien Toussaint drags Chloe away, and the next thing she knows she's on the run with the most terrifying and seductive man she's ever met. What were his motives--and would she live long enough to find out?

Column About Books Black Ice (Ice #1)
To be honest, I almost DNF'd this one in the first third. The heroine behaves stupidly in a way that only a romance heroine can accomplish. Get this: she's at a gathering where she's supposed to be the French/English interpreter and she's full of suspicions about everyone. She's sure there's a conspiracy afoot and danger lurks everywhere. She gets a hinky vibe off everyone. So she proceeds to drink like a fish. Um. Girl? No. She does a few more dumb things after that and I really wanted to bail.

June 24, 2012: 6:30 AM. Mood:Sleep Deprived and Mind BlownReal Review is written now :p Oh. My. Gosh. What in the hell did I just read. I can't decide if this is the worst romance novel, if you can call it that, I have ever read or the Best. I mean, it should be called Black Crack. Easily, this is the most twisted sick excuse of a romance novel I have ever encountered. I can honestly say I'm blown, i had no fucking clue what was happening or what was going to happen. This novel goes against

I was a little out of my element with this book. I like contemporaries to be straight-up romance - no espionage, organized crime, or terrorists. Or so I thought. Bastien, the French hero in Black Ice, is a smuggler, a spy, a trained killer, a practiced playboy and a master of character disguise. A man of few words, he is ruthless, cold, calculating and indifferent. He is a man with a death wish...an oxymoron complementing his impressive resume as it is the reason he is still alive. To feel...to

"She'd remember, and she'd start shaking, and there was no one there to remind her to breathe."This is such a hard book to review. Totally easy to rate, though.Five Huge StarsI can understand why some people took Bastien to be just a little too cold-hearted. But I just can't bring myself to care. I LOVED him, so much! He is ruthless and soulless. For nearly the entire book, he just doesn't back down. But you also get a glimpse of the emptiness that he exists with, the nothingness that is in his

Weird book. Not really bad, but not exactly good. Just...weird.Why? Because the whole book is so cold-blooded. I think the only character that had any heart or soul was Chloe. And I'm not exactly sure how rational she was considering she fell for Sebastien. Not that I really disliked Sebastien. He was rather interesting, but he seems more the type for some really great sex than for love and family. He's also one you probably wouldn't want to turn your back on because he's a cold-blooded killer.

I am a huge fan of Anne Stuart and have read all her books over and over again. And I love her Ice Series, Black Ice is the first book in the series and its a dark, non-stop action suspense story of Chloe Underwood, an American working in Paris as a childrens book translator, yearning for some excitement and sex in her rather boring life and Bastien Toussaint, a ruthless, sexy undercover spy for the mysterious Committee.Chloes best friend and roommate, Sophie begs her to take her place as a
