I did not exactly liked this book. It was really confused, not following a real plot but just giving space to worthless scenes in which one or more characters are involved, giving nothing to the whole narration. All the characters (many!) were just cited slightly, none of them can be pictured in the mind of the reader. The difficulty in reading the names both of the characters and the places the group travels along doesn't really help. Furthermore, sometimes the places are cited almost as a

lt is funny if you are into black type of humour. l personally like black humour so in that way it was amusing. lt has also lots of metaphors that if you don't recognize it is not so important cause you can always enjoy story but they are really cool if you spot them (for that you should probably have some knowledge of Finnish people and culture cause it is more like "inside thing"). lt is written in very simple language which is more a style and statement of author in my opinion than anything

Got this book for my 24th birthday from Stephi and as my second Paasilinna book, I found it about equally funny. It's really an amusing read and a well-written story. I especially like the hidden jokes and wit and how he writes about those suicidals in a very every-day stile. And the most I liked a little paragraph from the end of the book:"Er lernte innerhalb von zwei Monaten Portugiesisch, was kein Wunder war, denn das Samische und das Portugiesische haben in der Aussprache überraschend viel

My introduction to the genius, that is Arto.Just by seeing the title, I knew this was going to be a fun ride. And boy, was I right.Offers unique insight into human mentality and relativity of it. And how changed circumstances equal different state of mind. Different, mind me, not necessarily better haha.A fun, witty read, full of laughing outloud moments. The humor is extremely dry too. Imagine, the funniest thing in the world, that is being presented in the form of a police report. I don't know

Definitely one of my favourite books, just brillant. The author have a gift to treat the worst subjects possible like madness, murder, cheating, loneliness and here suicidal tendencies with a sense of humor never seen before. But a humor that is for once not without respect for the subjects he treats and the people dealing with it, that's the force of Paasilinna for me. No matter how you feel, you can read him and find yourself smiling over tragic issues and realizing that after all even the

Norwegian audiobook.Title translation: The Charming Mass SuicideThis book was hilarious and absolutely charming. It was given to me by a friend who told me it was a particular type of humor that many people didn't get, but she thought I could appreciate it. When I started reading it I thought 'No way, this would be hilarious to everyone!' I then proceeded to share some funny excerpts with people and received reactions ranging from blank stares to straight out shaming me for my callousness. I

A group of like-minded Finns set off in a bus to try to off themselves. But for some reason it's harder than they thought to get to it...Surreal and pretty funny story, but not quite to my own taste.
