This book made me want to do more drugs.The narration reads tight, just behind your sternum, right behind your eyes and in front of your brain. Its a fast, bloody picaresque that follows the narrator Nails through a few brutal days, its narration style slipping between persons and time and people addressed. Most characters are treated as isolated, unpredictable, each action interpreted as hostile or overlaid with excess layers of meaning by the leaping associations of the narrator. The

It was a long time ago. I enjoyed this book early in my reading career, and Im not sure it holds up, but the memory of it sits nicely. After finally forgetting that Dorota Masłowska was an author I looked forward to reading more of, now a new work finally presents itself to remind me.So, yeah, thats why I catalogued this today.

I liked it and I didn't. I like the story at times but I get lost too. The writer is really talented, that's for sure, very rich vocabulary, very clever and since to know about a lot, which is impressing, especially considering her age when she wrote the book. However, to me sometimes it feels as if she was writing nonsense to fill pages and show her opinion about different issues and show richness of vocabulary. This was probably the most difficult book I ever read, which explains why I took me

I can count on the fingers of a hand the books I started but didn't finish because somehow I do always think that every book deserves the change to be read until the end before being judged and I pushed myself until half of the book but I really can't go on.. The writing style reminds me of Joyce's stream of consciousness which is not easy to follow ..some parts of the book are just revolting and this comes from someone who loves some gorey authors like PZ Brite but in this case I just can't see

The first half to two-thirds is a sloppy mess. Perhaps that's the translator's error, but the English edition is rather crude, and not just in subject matter. The first analogy that comes to mind is that Dorota is a second or third tier Hunter Thompson. The subject of this book: Speed. Amphetamines. The last third, however, is more placid and gathered. Gathered and coherent and just good overall. You still might not really like any of the characters, but at least that straight-edge girl bursts

I really liked the idea and her way of writing BUT it's such a difficult and tiring read.
